Dave Thomas and  Ray Struck were introduced to each other through a coach at the University of New Mexico. Their love of sports, shared background in college athletics, certifications as sports agents, and law backgrounds made it natural that they would team up to create  D & R Sports Management Group, LLC, in 2003.

Each of our agents is a certified agent for pro and semi-pro sports, as well as being a licensed, practicing attorney.

Dave Thomas

I grew up playing football in Texas. Playing ball was something I always wanted to do, and I played college ball for New Mexico State University in the ‘70s. I was a four-year letterman and a starter on the defensive line for 33 games.

I continued my education and earned a law degree at Texas Tech University in 1981, but I remained an avid sports enthusiast. I became a contract advisor for the NFL Players Association in 1996, and a certified agent for the NFL. I’m a member of the Sports Lawyers Association as well as the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of New Mexico, and the American Bar Association. I am a licensed attorney in private practice.

Ray Struck

In New Mexico, they breed basketball. It’s a big part of small town life here. I was born and raised in Taos and graduated from Taos High school. I attended Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and was a 4-year basketball varsity letterman for Pomona-Pitzer, where I was coached by Gregg Popovich (head coach of the San Antonio Spurs).

I received my law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1999. During law school, I completed a two-year internship as a University of New Mexico football compliance officer in order to pursue my dream of becoming a sports agent. I became a certified sports agent for the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2000.

I currently serve as corporate counsel for the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball club, and am former corporate counsel for the New Mexico Scorpions hockey team, so I understand how management thinks when it comes time to negotiate a sports contract.

I am a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, the Hispanic Bar Association, and the Young Lawyers Division or the New Mexico State Bar Association. I am also a licensed attorney in practice with Ron Bell & Associates.
